A Message from Daryle Palmer:
McGaugh Elementary School is blessed with a wonderful community that supports us in so many ways. We are lucky to have parents regularly on campus helping in classrooms, the art lab, and the media center. However, it is important to remember that while parents are on campus, they need to be under the direct supervision of a faculty member. This is due to additional health requirements and background checks for adults working with students that are required if a faculty member is not present.
Many parents love to join their children for lunch. We certainly understand this, but it is very difficult for other students to watch some children getting McDonald's (and smell those very fragrant French fries) knowing that their parents work and cannot provide the same treat. We recommend that you take your child off campus for special lunches. Please remember that lunch is a part of the educational program where social skills and appropriate behavior is reinforced.
Due to insurance liability issues, we also ask that parents do not join in at recess and play with their children. We have had adults trip while playing games and break wrists and/or ankles. Therefore, parents should only be volunteering in the classroom during the lunch and recess times.
Please remember that each year we review "Stranger Danger" safety rules. If a parent notices any child acting inappropriately, please take that information directly to a faculty member so they can deal with the issue. It is scary and inappropriate for any adult who is not a member of the faculty to approach a child on campus.
We are so very grateful to all of you who give up your time to help make McGaugh such a special environment. Thank you for supporting our school and observing these rules.
