PTA General Association Meeting This Week

Ladies and Gentlemen,

      The next General Association PTA Meeting will be held this week on Thursday, 4 March 2010.  This is an important meeting as we will not only be voting on the resolution to transfer $13,000 to Project SEEK, but we will also be electing next year's PTA officers.  At the end of the meeting, our very own Penny Homan-Muise will be sharing her expertise through a workshop on the importance of posture and healthy ways to better meet the demands of everyday living for both you and your children.

Posting the menus online at the McGaugh School Website is part of the school and district's ongoing effort to reduce the amout of paper used, helping both the environment and the budget.

 

Start the Day for Students on March 4th

 

 

     The Orange County Education Coalition and 4th District PTA, members of the California Education Coalition with the California Teachers Associaction, have designated Thursday, March 4, as a "rally day" to Stand Up For Schools to bring attention to the state budget and the impact it has had on our schools.  If you can't or don't want to get involved in a formal rally, you can still show your support by wearing Blue on March 4th.  This is also the day of our next General Meeting, at which we will be discussing a couple big decisions effecting this year and next.

Dear 5^th Grade Families,

Teachers are collecting photos and "messages from home" now through February 25, for the yearbook.  A notice went home in backpacks last week.  If you missed it, please get in touch with your class's yearbook committee member (listed below). 

As an added incentive, Vice Principal MacDonald has generously offered ten McGaugh bucks to any student who turns in their photos and "messages from home" by February 25.   And, the class with the most students to turn in photos and messages wins a popcorn party!

He's doing it again!  Alan Grant of zpizza on Main Street has graciously offered to donate 20% of their proceeds again!  This will take place over 2 nights again to keep from mobbing Alan with a crowd that cannot be expeditiously handled, but the last name is a suggested guideline only!  If someone can only participate on one night because of other commitments, and that night does not coincide with their last name, please feel free to participate on the "wrong" night rather than miss out on the whole thing!

Big Decisions

If you missed the PTA General Membership Meeting this morning, you missed some great conversation about three important issues that will effect your school and/or PTA this year and next.  All three of these are of such weight that none could be decided today, but will be presented for votes at the next General Membership Meeting on Thursday, March 4th, 2010.

First, Principal Daryle Palmer presented an official request to the membership that the PTA gift $13,000 to Project SEEK, which would join their gift to the school to be used specifically for the Forward Funded Staffing Positions.  The school has four such positions, including the Art program instructor, the credentialed Media Center instructor, and two Media Center/Computer Lab aides.  Project SEEK and available school funds are able to cover most of the budgetary needs for the 2010-11 school year, but is $13,000 short in fulfilling next year's budget.  As presented by the PTA Treasurer, the PTA believes these funds are within reasonable means for a school gift.  The question as motioned before the membership, however, is whether or not to gift that amount at this time and for this purpose.

Next, there is a motion before the membership to increase budgetary spending toward Family Fun Night.  The current budget calls for expenditures of up to $200.  Many members have expressed an interest in a more interactive night, such as a concert with a live band.  Details are still being discussed and nothing has been decided at this time.  Rather than asking attendees for some amount to offset funds through an additional donation or ticket sales, the motion requests an increase of the budget up to $2,500 to present a free night of entertainment to celebrate and thank our McGaugh families.

Finally, attached is the proposed list of names for next year's PTA Board and Committee Chair positions.  These must be confirmed by the membership to be finalized.  If anyone is interested in getting involved, there are still a few openings and plenty of opportunities.

These issues and more will be on the agenda at next month's meeting, and after any further discussion can be voted on by the membership.  Members are encouraged to attend; and if you aren't a member, it's never too late to join!

 This Thursday, February 4th, is the next PTA General Membership Meeting.  Come join us at 8:15am (location to be determined, most likely Room 24 again) and help discuss various matters of importance to our school.  Topics to be discussed include a presentation of the job nominations for next year's board and committee positions.
