McGaugh's Rededication

Friends,

I just wanted you to know the date and make plans to attend, if possible. We will be having a formal rededication of McGaugh, following all the construction, on March 15th. We will be having the ceremony in the Auditorium and it will begin at 2:30. We will be expressing our appreciation to the architect and his crew, the construction team, along with the School Board and the members of the community that supported Measure K allowing the auditorium and the K wing to be completed in such a great fashion. Most of all,  we will be acknowledging the teachers and the parents for their support during the construction phases. More information will be forward but please mark your calendar.

City Construction

telephone-pole.pngJust when we could see the end of construction, something new will be impacting the streets to the east of the McGaugh.  The city and Edison are working together to removed the telephone poles along Seal Beach Blvd and put the wires and cables underground. This work will begin Wednesday, January 27th, 2010, depending on the weather. Expect curbside trenching and construction at the intersection of Bolsa and Seal Beach Blvd., and then down the Blvd. This construction will likely require about six days, again depending on the weather.  The contractor performing this work was good enough to request our school start and let out schedule as well as the bus schedule in order to limit their interference with school traffic. That's the good news.
Bolsa, Marlin, and Seal Beach Blvd will be impacted by this construction; however, every attempt will be made to keep driveways clear prior to the beginning of school and at dismissal times. There will be NO PARKING or STOPPING on Bolsa during this construction period, so my recommendation would be to park up the streets and walk to meet your children. While this will definitely be an inconvenience, it will increase the safety and the appearance of the neighborhood and school to have the wires relocated underground. Ideally, this could have happened last summer while the campus was closed, however, we were just informed of this construction on Thursday this week. So once again I ask for your patience and extra caution in order to keep our students safe during this period.

Temperature for Monday? 98.6 Degrees

hot-thermometer.gifThe Outdoor Science School starts Monday morning, and they could use your help getting out in time.  In preparation for the trip, every 5th grade student must have their temperature taken to confirm their health.  4th grade students will also be getting a taste of the thermometer so that they will better know what to expect next year.

If you are able to help, please call the office at (562) 799-4560, ext 79103, to RSVP your participation.  On Monday morning at 7:45am please meet at the front office to be assigned a room.  The more parents that can help, the faster the process can go and the sooner our kids can start their adventure!

Hats for Haiti

McGaugh Families,

All of us have heard of the devastation in Haiti as a result of the earthquake. This devastation has affected every family and the children in Haiti. To offer our support and to encourage philanthropic activities among our students, we will be having a "Hats for Haiti" day on January 20, 2010. We encourage all students to wear a hat to school and to make a donation to the relief effort taking place in Haiti. No donation is too small and I encourage students to consider donating their own money. If parents want to make their donation with a check, please make the check out to The American Red Cross and in the memo line, please write for the Haitian Relief Fund. Donations will be collected in each class and combined for a total donation from McGaugh Elementary School.
